"THE TEMPEST"

The December 2013 IAA school production of "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare was the first play I staged at the school, after having joined the team that August, and the first full Shakespearian production on our main stage.

I edited Shakespeare's script, keeping the original dialogue, but 'streamlining' the text in order to keep the pace of the show fast and modern. We also played out the backstory and reported action to keep the audience with us.

The magical power Prospero holds over the action was envisioned and realized using the voodoo dolls of witchcraft. Prospero puppets and manipulates his adversaries, through Ariel, by controlling dolls over a model island onstage.

"The Tempest" was co-directed with Susanne Marchant, who was also in charge of set, prop and costume design.
